National Security Decision Making:
More than a game!

A Note to Event Organisers

A typical game session runs 8+ hours, involves 50 or more players, and takes a team of 8-10 trained game controllers to run. We bring our own maps and game aids. We typically stage several games over the course of an event, for example, running daily games Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This enables more people to schedule a time to participate, and gives us a chance to settle in to the scenarios. We are, however, flexible within the schedule of your specific event.

In most cases we would be happy to come to your event and stage an NSDM game session for you. Because we do this on our own time we have to limit the number of events we can schedule each year. In general, events should provide the following conditions:

  • expected off-the-street attendance of over 3000 or
  • pre-registered attendance of 50+ participants per game
  • multi-day event scheduling
  • atmosphere conducive to political/military wargame play

We also need some basic facilities in order to stage the game:

  • minimum of three adjoining rooms, one of which is large enough to hold 50+ players at once.
  • tables and chairs
  • podium and/or microphone set-up
  • overhead projector
  • white board/ chalk board/ etc.
  • electrical outlets for computer equipment
  • access to services such as photocopying

What's our fee? We expect the sponsoring organization to provide accomodations for the game directors and controllers, usually this means rooms in the hotel where the convention or event is taking place. In some cases travel expenses may also need to be met.

A sucessful event is also well-publicised to ensure full participation, and has facilities such as restrooms and food service available in close proximity.

When contacting us about an event, be sure to mention the dates you have planned, your location, and any other activities or information that might help us make the decision. We arrange our games schedule 6-12 months in advance, so be sure to contact as soon as possible.
